Healthcare

Healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

Rural communities need local clinics that can provide more of the services that hospitals offer. The lack of public transportation makes it difficult for some people to travel out of town for medical treatment in a larger clinic or a hospital. These local clinics should be equipped with x-ray and mammogram machines, they should have staff and supplies to apply a cast to a broken arm or leg.

Medical treatment and prescriptions should be affordable. The cost of insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-pays need to be capped at a reasonable rate. Although insulin co-pay has been capped at $50, it needs to be lowered to $35. Co-pays for medicines and machines that treat COPD – inhalers and nebulizers – should also be capped at a much lower cost. The cost of all prescriptions should be lowered so that no patient has to go without needed medication.
